Senator Obie Patterson was first elected to the Maryland Senate in 2018 and has been a member of the Senate since January 9, 2019. He is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates and served from 1995 to 2007.
The Senator currently holds the position of Deputy Majority Whip and is a member of the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee where he also serves on two subcommittees; the Alcohol Subcommittee and the Education Subcommittee. Additionally, the Senator serves on the Joint Committee on Gaming Oversight and the Legislative Black Caucus. Senator Patterson is the Vice Chair of the Prince George’s County Senate Delegation. He is also a member of the Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities.
Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, Senator Patterson is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University where he received his B.S. in Biology. He attended the University of Florida and received his M.A. in Public Administration.
